Sam Houston in 1861. He was mad as hell over Texas leaving the Union. He
would not take an oath of loyalty to the Confederacy and was removed as
Governor of Texas in March of 1861. He lived for the rest of his life in Huntsville,
Texas, in virtual isolation . He was shunned by most people because he was
branded as a traitor and Yankee lover. He died in 1863, believing that he was a
failure.
